Relationships

I think it’s a hot tumblr topic. I see many brothers and sisters doing their 365 Day challenge, writing about what they want in their significant other, and what they want out of a relationship. So here’s my two cents on a lot of stuff I guess.

  • Despite my usual cynicism on relationships, I’m not here to bash that kind of mindset. “It’s not good to be alone!” says God. Yet, there’s a certain trend that’s going around which is the belief that if you’re single, that’s somehow more glorifying to God than following God’s original wiring for you to pursue a spouse. God created woman and in so doing, He created marriage. There’s nothing wrong or wicked with wanting a wife or a husband. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, just as well as there is nothing wrong with being single or content.
  • God is not going to simply throw you a spouse. You’ve got to work for it. God didn’t just make your lunch suddenly appear for you, either. I’m not saying to go “hunt”, but you’ve got to pursue!
  • However, if you are not spiritually mature enough to uphold that relationship, then you better reevaluate yourself constantly. Concentrate on your relationship with God, and become a man of God. Not just a little boy, chasing after carnal desires. Let God fuel you, run to God first. If you’re not sure if you’re spiritually mature for a relationship, then ASK those around you. You must be humble and be willing to be open to criticism from your brothers and sisters. Ephesians 5:21 (Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ)
  • Guys, don’t toy with girls hearts. I’m sorry, but if you don’t know how you feel about a girl, then stay the heck away from her. Girls, this goes for you too. Don’t date to figure out how you feel about someone! It just uses them so you can confirm your own emotions, and honestly, you’ll probably just make a mess out of her for the next guy.

I’m not entirely sure where I was going with this, but I think the main point I wanted to make was to always make God your first lover and foundation. Those who are ready for marriage are the ones who need it the least.
